First we designed the whole mural and passed several meetings with the community foundation and its supporters. Then we cut the letters out and began hand drawing the art.

Next we began illustrating stories onto each letter to show our communities love for humanity. Many of the images were of local people being human. Living with purpose , and enjoying each other.

Outdoor murals are exciting, but they deserve to last through the elements. In Iowa, we get extreme weather. Kiem Minerals are our go to for outstanding long lasting, non fading results.

Working with Kiem minerals as our paint, Scott Takes and John Neal blended airbrush techniques along with hand painted brushwork to create a unique style of portrait work on each letter. .

Like all of the art we do at Underground Art Studios, we start with quality design. We designed each letter to have its own story while matching the rest of the letters with a uniform background for legibility.

Pre planning was key, as we engineered this piece from the artwork to the installation. Pre paint matching steel structures to the building we installed with ease, and help from our friends Matt Fisher and Brandon Hess.
